Congregational Care
To enhance Hennepin’s growth as a caring community of faith, the Congregational Care Ministries offer programs that provide service and support to its members by its members. These ministries include:
- Blood Pressure Screeners – Licensed health care professionals take blood pressure readings on the second Sunday of each month to screen, assess, and identify members with blood pressure issues, and to make referrals as needed. They also provide health education to help prevent complications related to blood pressure problems.
- Care Notes – Care Note pamphlets, which offer guidance for coping with a variety of life’s challenges, are provided and available on the literature racks.
- Congregational Cards – Each week, members sign cards that are sent to Hennepin members and friends who are ill or in need of prayer support.
- Congregational Care Monthly Newsletter – Letters that recap the highlights of the month in church and share the joys and concerns of members are sent to homebound members and “snowbirds.”
- Downtown Coalition Grief Support Program – Hennepin cooperates with other downtown churches to offer weekly educational and support programs for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
- Funeral Hosts – Volunteers provide compassionate support to the family, offer a welcoming presence to guests, serve at the reception/luncheon, and assist as necessary before and after the funeral/memorial service.
- Hennepin’s Grief Outreach Program – Letters of condolence, with informational enclosures about coping with grief, are sent to members three times during the first year after a death in their family.
- Pacem Singers –The spirit of God’s love is conveyed through song to members who are confined in their home, a care center, or hospitalized due to illness or age.
- Prayer Shawl Ministry – Members knit prayer shawls for presentation to persons experiencing challenging times and in need of the comfort and spiritual support that a prayer shawl can provide. The group meets monthly for fellowship as they knit.
- Prayer Team – Prayer team members offer daily prayer support for Hennepin members and friends as requested. Requests lists are provided from the church each week.
- Visitors to the Homebound – Volunteers deliver plants and visit with homebound members at Easter and Christmas to convey love from Hennepin.
