John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, understood that attending worship was not enough to help you along in your spiritual journey. He encouraged people to participate in small groups called "classes" to study, pray, support one another and to serve those in need.

This commitment to personal spiritual growth developed into a Methodist passion for Christian education. In fact, Hennepin Church actually started out as The Hennepin Avenue Methodist Episcopal Sunday School on October 24, 1875, with one class for children and thirteen for adults. With the Sunday School being so popular, they decided to officially become a church so that members could also participate in worship. The first sermon preached at Hennepin Church occurred on December 20, 1875.

The Adult Nurture Committee invites you to participate in one of our many class offerings for adults. Sunday School isn't just for children. It can contribute to the spiritual growth and faith formation of persons at any age. Additionally, a small-group setting can help adults make connections with others - an important, yet difficult task in a large congregation such as ours. Below you will find the classes, forums, small groups and retreats available.

Please join us on this life-long spiritual journey.
