Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church Foundation
Gifts that keep giving to the programs of Hennepin
We have been contributing to the Hennepin Foundation for years because the endowment funds are granted annually to programming here and they will keep providing funding for decades to come!
- Bill and Caroline Pilgram
We know the Hennepin Foundation makes it possible for us to try new programs and not dip into the annual operating budget of the church.
- Steve and Carol Jackson
We like the fact that we can say specifically where our foundation contribution is directed like youth programming or adult education for example.
- Jim and Jane Stegner
Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church Foundation was brought to life in December 1971 by members who felt it was time to “assure that the unusual, the extra, the unique, the superior church programming so meaningful to our congregation and the community could be and would be continued through the years.”
From a start of $25,000 in 1971 the foundation has grown through donations of all sizes to $5 million dollars. Thirteen family funds and eight designated interest funds have special purposes – from art and music to small group ministry. The multi-purpose funds are unrestricted for use in all areas of programming.
Through church committee applications, Hennepin Foundation annually makes grants for church programming. This money is separate from the church’s annual operating budget and also separate from funds for facilities managed by the Board of Trustees.
Since 1971, the foundation has granted over $2,400,000 to support Hennepin programs, activities
and scholarships. The Dignity Center, academic scholarships, Hennepin’s alternative worship services, and youth mission trips are samples of hundreds of funded projects.
Hennepin Foundation, begun by a small group of visionary people, has grown to hundreds of
contributors making large and small gifts to enrich the programs available to all Hennepin members, visitors and friends. The endowment that started modestly makes a significant contribution to the life of your church today.
We invite you to become part of the family of donors to the Hennepin Foundation.
There are three ways to contribute:
- Give to the multi-purpose fund, the largest fund within the foundation. It supports
initiatives in areas like worship, communication and community outreach. - Contribute to a specific program area such as youth, seniors, children, music, art
- and outreach.
- Make a planned gift – a legacy gift – to Hennepin’s programming.
- The amount you contribute, the timing and frequency of your contributions are up to you.
The size of the foundation’s endowment and the success of its investment strategy are the keys to the amount the foundation can contribute annually to the programming of the church.
Your gifts are invited and welcome. They will help the endowment grow to support the programming of your church!
