A letter from Rev. Bruce Robbins
Dear Hennepin Church friends and visitors:
I have received many inquiries because so many of us want to help the
Haitian people and country. We will seek to keep updated information on
the website. Please visit HennepinChurch.org to connect with the
following:
- Opportunities to provide emergency relief by giving to Hennepin
Church directly or to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
UMCOR is an award-winning direct support agency that guarantees 100%
of your giving goes to direct support services for Haiti. - The most up-to-date information we have on our partners in
Haiti. This information is provided by Deirdre Garvey, the chairperson
of our Haiti-Hennepin partnership. (Our prayers are urgent since our
partner projects are in the heart of Port au Prince, the area with
maximum devastation.) - A letter from United Methodist Bishop Sally Dyck of
Minnesota calling for our generosity. Also, there is a link to our
denomination with comments, prayers, partnerships, etc. - Information on relief support from the international church community.
Our neighbors at Saint Mark's will be holding a prayer vigil this evening at 7:00pm.
GIFTS AND INCENTIVE: Last evening one church family gave a gift of $20,000
for Haiti relief. We are so grateful for this generosity. Also, our
Haiti partnership has begun to send money for support of the specific
projects we supported through the years including Grace Children's
Hospital, the Methodist Home for the Aged and the Methodist Home for
Boys.
Please respond to the devasting need with some of your
resources and with your prayers. As former President Bill Clinton said
last night, "The most anyone can do is send cash, even if it is a
dollar." Not only is our church a connectional church, but we believe
that each person in Haiti, regardless of their faith commitment, is
part of the Body of Christ. Their losses are our losses. Their need is
our need.
Blessings,
Bruce Robbins
